Martini Cup, Snetterton, 18th July 2009

An invitation to race in the prestigious Martini Cup was too tempting to pass for team boss, Warren Gilbert who chose Topcats team assistant and close friend, Rob Wilson to share in the driving duties for the 3 hour endurance race. Previous cup winners include the likes of the famous Graham Hill to name but one.

A confident, Warren Gilbert put the Marcos Mantis GT car on pole by a convincing 1 second margin over nearest rival Geddes Jnr & Snr in their Porsche Cup 997, currently racing successfully in the Porsche Cup Series.

Warren had his tactics all worked out for the rolling start, using the huge amount of torque available from the LS6 Chevy engine Warren had all his rivals backed up behind him at a relatively slow pace only to unleash the torque as the lights went to green and Warren was able to leave the other cars trailing behind as he took the first corner, and continue to stretch his lead by over 6 car lengths as he rounded Corum and back into view of the pitwall.
