After 6 hours of qualifying sessions to determine who would take the top spot in the qualifying stakes for thisweekend’s Zolder 24hr race, Topcats Racing saved the best ‘til last to secure a pole time of 1.32.780m in the closing minutes in the hands of top British driver, Phil Keen, by over half a second from joint favourites, the NGT Porsche 911 GT3R, driven by Ruben Maes and more than 1 second faster than the third placed driver, Bert Longin, in the Porsche GT3 Cup S.
Afterwards, Phil commented, “I hadn’t expected that, because the team told me that the fastest lap time set by the car last year was 1.35, so 1.32.7 is a fair amount under that. I’m obviously delighted with my pole, because it has been a long time since I last started up front. Sorry for the Belgians!…”
The team will have now Friday to ensure that the Topcats Runnymede Mosler is in fine fettle for the race start at 4pm on Saturday.
