In the hottest race of the season with temperatures topping 90 deg at Snetterton in the Britcar Production Cup on the 18th and 19th August. Bert and Ernie (Bailye & Black in their lesser guise) qualified 3rd in class for the Saturday race, behind their main class antagonists, Jordan/Ainge in the Honda Integra and the Ginetta G40 of Howard/Breeze but ahead of their other rivals Wilds/Lawson in the BMW.
The duo were confident of their chances for a podium finish but a sheared camber plate ended their hopes after a lengthy pit stop to make repairs.
In Sunday’s qualifying session Bailye/Black succeeded in pipping Ainge/Jordan in the timing stakes to qualify 2nd in class behind Howard and Breeze.
No maladies for Bailye and Black for race two. Jordan/Aigne were already dispensed with before the race even started with mechanical problems that couldn’t be fixed trackside.
They lead the class for the second of the 90 minute races but they only needed to cruise at the end as their remaining class rivals, Howard/Breeze and Wilds/Lawson, fell by the wayside, perhaps victims of the extreme heat that was making a lot of the cars in the race vunerable to failure.
This was a race that Bailye and Black could enjoy with no strings attached.
