Today we have started on our latest Chevrolet LS engine conversion. It will be our 25th conversion for a TVR. The client has opted for an LS3 engine with Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed gearbox which makes a big difference to fuel economy.
With our engineers only returning yesterday from racing at Sebring in America, the engine has already been removed and all the major components are ready to be installed. The client has already sold the outgoing Speed Six engine and gearbox which of course is offset against the cost of the conversion.
Included in the cost of the conversion and all brand new are, LS engine and run kit, gearbox and bellhousing, clutch, ECU, braided Goodridge hoses throughout, alternator, starter motor, oil cooler and mapping. We DO NOT modify or cut into the chassis at all as it is very important to us to preserve the integrity of the car. This would also allow the owner to retro fit the Speed Six back into the car if wanted.
Converting to LS power frees the owner of 12k mile tappet servicing, potential engine failure, clutch finger failure, slave cylinder failure and left hand engine mount failure.
The conversion is what we term, ‘drive-in/drive-out’. Once the engine has been installed and mapped, the client collects his car and from then on only basic servicing at a fraction of the price is required compared to the servicing and running costs of the Speed Six.
For owners of the LS conversion, they no longer need to go through the ritual of engine warming before driving the car nor do they need to listen out for strange or different engine noises.
Owners can enjoy the huge and wonderful linear delivery of power that the LS engine offers up at the press of the throttle pedal. LS3 will deliver 460+BHP as standard with the LS7 giving 565+BHP. For the most demanding of our customers we have even completed a Lingenfelter LS9 conversion pushing out an incredible 753BHP! Conversely, the driver can enjoy the smoothness of the engine at cruising speed and for urban driving. With a 5 or six speed gearbox it is surprisingly fuel efficient.
Many of our customer LS conversions compete in hillclimbs, sprints and speed trials as well as events at Nurburgring, Spa, Isle of Man and most of Europe. Even with long distance journeys and hard competition driving, there have been no issues with reliability.
Bear in mind that four of our race cars are LS powered and have raced and finished 24 hour races every year as well as competing in full seasons of racing too! The engines have been proven and tested to the limit for the last 10 years. In fact, we ran the LS7 TVR Sagaris driven by Steve Glynn that won Britcar Trophy this year.
