Chevrolet LS conversion No.25 under way!

Posted by | Posted in Conversions, Latest News | Posted on 26-11-2015

LS3 engineToday we have started on our latest Chevrolet LS engine conversion. It will be our 25th conversion for a TVR. The client has opted for an LS3 engine with Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed gearbox which makes a big difference to fuel economy.
With our engineers only returning yesterday from racing at Sebring in America, the engine has already been removed and all the major components are ready to be installed. The client has already sold the outgoing Speed Six engine and gearbox which of course is offset against the cost of the conversion.

Included in the cost of the conversion and all brand new are, LS engine and run kit, gearbox and bellhousing, clutch, ECU, braided Goodridge hoses throughout, alternator, starter motor, oil cooler and mapping. There are multiple other parts and fabrications included which would take too long to list here but please contact us if you would like to know more.
We DO NOT modify or cut into the chassis at all as it is very important to us to preserve the integrity of the car. This would also allow the owner to retro fit the Speed Six back into the car if wanted.
Converting to LS power frees the owner of 12k mile tappet servicing, potential engine failure, clutch finger failure, slave cylinder failure and left hand engine mount failure.

Colin Harts carThe conversion is what we term, ‘drive-in/drive-out’. Once the engine has been installed and mapped, the client collects his car and from then on only basic servicing at a fraction of the price is required compared to the servicing and running costs of the Speed Six.
For owners of the LS conversion, they no longer need to go through the ritual of engine warming before driving the car nor do they need to listen out for strange or different engine noises.
Owners can enjoy the huge and wonderful linear delivery of power that the LS engine offers up at the press of the throttle pedal. LS3 will deliver 460+BHP as standard with the LS7 giving 565+BHP. For the most demanding of our customers we have even completed a Lingenfelter LS9 conversion pushing out an incredible 753BHP! Conversely, the driver can enjoy the smoothness of the engine at cruising speed and for urban driving. With a 5 or six speed gearbox it is surprisingly fuel efficient.

New gearbox etc for LS3 ConversionMany of our customer LS conversions compete in hillclimbs, sprints and speed trials as well as events at Nurburgring, Spa, Isle of Man and most of Europe. Even with long distance journeys and hard competition driving, there have been no issues with reliability.
Bear in mind that four of our race cars are LS powered and have raced and finished 24 hour races every year as well as competing in full seasons of racing too! The engines have been proven and tested to the limit for the last 10 years. In fact, we ran the LS7 TVR Sagaris driven by Steve Glynn that won Britcar Trophy this year.
If you would like more information or would like to come and have a look at our latest conversion in progress, please contact Warren Gilbert on 07850 698700 or email: warren@topcatsracing.com

TVR's Les Edgar (R) and John Chasey (L)

TVR’s Les Edgar (R) and John Chasey (L)

With orders of the new TVR totalling just short of 300, as of Monday this week, since TVR Manufacturing opened their order book in July this year, more exciting news has been released to confirm details of the 2017 cars power plant.

To further encourage potential owners who may be sitting on the fence awaiting more concrete information, the dyno tests for TVR’s new Cosworth engineered Ford Coyote V8 far exceeded expectations when its torque output forced the test equipment to shut down and had to be reconfigured. AUTOCARs news feature and footage from the dyno test can be viewed here:  http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/tvr-fires-v8-confirms-le-mans-2017-plans-exclusive-videos

With TVR’s scheduled release of its first road going cars to customers in mid 2017, it will surely be the UK automotive industries most significant moment in the past few years. If the general public haven’t already heard the news of our great British icon, TVR and its return, they will by then!

For the customer whose finger is still hovering over the ‘submit’ button, deposits are guaranteed if you pay by card. TVR are so confident too that if, when they release the images of the car, you don’t like it there is a no quibble return of your deposit. There is the added bonus too for TVR Car Club Members that they only need lay down £2500 deposit (half the normal £5000 deposit required).

All owners who had there cars inspected received a comprehensive inspection report by email that they can now keep for their records.
Visitors were free to wander around our workshop and cars and enjoy breakfast and refreshments with other car owners and enthusiasts. We are pleased that our free Topcats Car Club membership was so well received and they will all go on to enjoy the many benefits of becoming a member.

Topcats Racing are pleased to announce that their team driver Steve Glynn won the Britcar Trophy Championship at the final race of the season at Thruxton on Saturday in the TVR Sagaris.

Topcats Racing took over the running and preparation of the car before the start of this season with an overhaul and converting from LS3 to LS7 power ready to mount a serious challenge for the championship.

At the last race of the season , Glynn was on top form despite impending operations on damaged shoulder muscles! Wrestling a car with 500+hp and no power steering around Britain’s fastest and bumpiest circuit singled him out as this year’s deserving champion.

Glynn finished 5th overall in race one after suffering a tyre blow at 150mph putting paid to his chances of a win but an outright win in race two only served to prove his status.

Glynn will have revelled too in the fact that he beat his two Topcats Racing team owners Charlotte and Warren Gilbert sharing a car each with Jon Harrison and Rob Wilson respectively in their sister Marcos Mantis GT cars in the same class.

Duo, Gilbert and Harrison (car 54) failed to finish race one with a broken output shaft before Gilbert could to take over from Harrison.

Gilbert and Wilson in the sister car (60) were on point and finished second overall to the Class 1 Riley Daytona Prototype.

With Charlotte Gilbert starting race 2 from the back of the grid following race 1’s DNF, she made a great start managing to make her way back up to 3rd overall in time to hand over to Jon Harrison who maintained position to the chequered flag.

Warren Gilbert started from P2 on the grid behind the Riley, determined to pass the Riley for leading glory, maintained the lead for a lap and a half only to half spin at Noble, lose 3 places, regather and repass to catch back up with the Riley.

The Riley soon retired and Gilbert found himself leading the race as he pitted to hand over to Wilson. Wilson’s run didn’t last long as he too suffered a puncture dropping them down the board to finish 4th overall.

Posted by | Posted in Latest News, Main, Service and Upgrades News | Posted on 08-07-2015

The perfect combination

The perfect combination

Since the exciting news that TVR are now taking deposits, as of yesterday, prior to the launch of their first brand new car in 2017, if that news wasn’t enough, there is still more to incentivise new customers. With the excitement and anticipation surrounding it’s imminent arrival, the response from customers has been overwhelming, prompting TVR to open the books early and take deposits from those who are chomping at the bit to be the first owners of a car that will take the sports car market by storm!

Once customers are on the list they will have the option to choose the Launch Edition, or LE, which will be a limited run with extra specification and special features at a discounted price against the usual list price for that specification, to celebrate the marque’s return to production in its 70th birthday year.

TVR are rewarding loyal TVR owners too. Anyone who has been a member of the TVRCC for more tham 6 months will be entitled to pay a reduced deposit of just £2500 instead of £5000 with the promise of some of the first cars to be released and are likely to be much coveted. This offer lasts until the end of July so you’ll have to move fast!

TVR are at pains to make clear that customers deposits are safe and that TVR are here stay but if that isn’t reassurance enough customers have the option to pay by credit card, thus your payment will be guaranteed by the credit card company.

As members of the TVR Network, Topcats Racing have already taken 4 orders on referral on behalf of customers and welcome further enquiries. If you wish us to assist you with help and advice on a potential purchase we will be very happy to hear from you!

So, what are you waiting for!?…..

Topcats narrowly miss out on wins in first Lamborghini Super Trofeo Race

Posted by | Posted in Latest News, Racing News | Posted on 25-05-2015

Lambo line upTopcats Racing and driver Neil Huggins narrowly missed out on a double win this weekend after Saturdays first race saw them make a fantastic climb up the leader board into P2 and chasing the lead car before the Lamborghini Super Trofeo cut out with just half a lap to the end of the race.

With two separate qualifying sessions for both races, Huggins really clicked with his new car in 2nd qualifying to secure P2 on the grid for race two.

After a less than perfect getaway from the green light in Sundays 50 minute Lamborghini Super Trofeo race and a cautious opening couple of laps because of unfamiliarity with cold tyres, Neil Huggins dropped to 5th in class with a big 100 metre gap to make up. As soon as Huggins was confident with the tyres he began to close in on the leading pack. Within 3 laps he had halved the gap and drizzle set in. Huggins really came alive whilst the competition started to fall back into… Neil’s clutches. Huggins managed to pass 3 of his Gallardo Lambo thru fencechallengers before his mandatory pitstop and by the time all the pitstops had played out Huggins was up into P2 and challenging for P1 and quickest on track. With 10 minutes remaining Huggins was making a concerted effort to overtake the class leader and made several attempts to get down the inside into the corners but the worsening wet weather conditions were making each attempt more precarious as all cars were still on slick tyres. A move into Copse to out brake his opponent cost him in the end and he spun into the gravel. It ended his chance of winning but was able to return to the track to finish the race. Despite the final result, Huggins has definitely been noticed and although this was to be a one off for the year with Blancpain, Huggins has unfinished business….

Ready to go!
