GT8 LargeIf you are an Aston Martin V8 Vantage owner or are interested in owning one, you are invited to join us at our Open Day on Saturday from 10am where you will have the opportunity to test drive our 573BHP GMR Supercharged AMV8 Vantage demonstrators. As an added treat, we will have on display, the world’s first GMR Supercharged Aston Martin GT8 which completed it’s installation last week. The GT8 is one of only 150 made and this is one of only 44 residing in the country. A truly rare opportunity to see and hear this unique car.

GMR have earned themselves great accolade from the Aston Martin community and the motoring press having already installed 14 superchargers to customers cars as well as their own V8 Vantage demonstrator, used daily and covering 85k miles since its installation.

GMR Engine bayBefore explaining how the system works, it is important to divulge the enormity of the performance upgrade that is being delivered. That way, we are sure we will already have you hooked.
The 4.3L V8 Vantage offers its owner a ‘comparatively’ stingy 380bhp. Once the GMR 600 super charger is installed and mapped you can wave your supercar pals goodbye with a whopping 583BHP at 7250rpm and 445lbs ft at 3500rpm. Compare that to the V12 Vantage S which has a mere 12lbs ft more but only achieved at 5750rpm! We haven’t even touched on the subject of the 4.7L V8 Vantage brandishing 600+BHP with the same conversion!

Even more astonishing is the superb linear delivery of power through the careful development of their mapping. Around double the torque pins you hard to the back of the seat. You can wring out the max from each gear if you enjoy the drama of wheel spins and smoking tyres or just short shift to a higher gear and let the torque whisk you to the upper echelons of the speedo, unflustered.

There are a few upgrades on the market for Aston Martin V8 Vantage owners but they only offer minimal improvement to performance with the costs exceeding the benefits. So how have GMR achieved it?

The supercharger is the very latest Eaton TVS used in the Jaguar F-Type S Coupe. GMR has developed it’s own ‘Geyser’ water injection system, doing away with the need for an intercooler thus improving efficiency, producing more power for less boost and reducing piston pressure and wear on the engine.

It’s an ingenious concept with several years of development by GMR’s MD, Graham Heane, an extremely talented engineer with an aircraft engineering background. Water is injected into the intake manifold as a fine mist at over 100psi of pressure. As it changes to a vapour it absorbs heat, lowering the temperature in the manifold and also reduces cylinder temperature. This improves the dynamics of the ‘flame front’ so that the fuel/air mixture ignites in a more efficient way and gives the pistons a less violent ‘shove’.

The engine can be run much leaner under load because fuel isn’t being pumped in to reduce in-cylinder temperature. Its water injection system is much more efficient than an intercooler and allows for exceptionally low boost pressure of only 6.5psi, further improving efficiency and longevity.
A good test is to put your hand on the intake manifold after a long run and remarkably, you will find it cool to the touch. Given all these factors, fuel consumption is significantly improved by approximately 20%.
The water is housed in a beautifully crafted 5.3 litre carbon fibre tank. To neatly tie up a complete package, the aesthetics of the installation look like they are Aston Martin factory finished.
