Please set your TV reminders to Motors TV for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo at Paul Ricard in France this weekend! Topcats are there to try and win the Gallardo class after narrowly missing out on a win at Silverstone in May with driver Neil Huggins. It will be a tougher challenge this time around though being on foreign soil and a circuit that neither team or driver have been to before. Sat. 20th: 11.45am and 1.15pm Sun.21st: 9.10am and 2.00pm
Topcats Racing and driver Neil Huggins narrowly missed out on a double win this weekend after Saturdays first race saw them make a fantastic climb up the leader board into P2 and chasing the lead car before the Lamborghini Super Trofeo cut out with just half a lap to the end of the race.
With two separate qualifying sessions for both races, Huggins really clicked with his new car in 2nd qualifying to secure P2 on the grid for race two.
After a less than perfect getaway from the green light in Sundays 50 minute Lamborghini Super Trofeo race and a cautious opening couple of laps because of unfamiliarity with cold tyres, Neil Huggins dropped to 5th in class with a big 100 metre gap to make up. As soon as Huggins was confident with the tyres he began to close in on the leading pack. Within 3 laps he had halved the gap and drizzle set in. Huggins really came alive whilst the competition started to fall back into… Neil’s clutches. Huggins managed to pass 3 of his Gallardo challengers before his mandatory pitstop and by the time all the pitstops had played out Huggins was up into P2 and challenging for P1 and quickest on track. With 10 minutes remaining Huggins was making a concerted effort to overtake the class leader and made several attempts to get down the inside into the corners but the worsening wet weather conditions were making each attempt more precarious as all cars were still on slick tyres. A move into Copse to out brake his opponent cost him in the end and he spun into the gravel. It ended his chance of winning but was able to return to the track to finish the race. Despite the final result, Huggins has definitely been noticed and although this was to be a one off for the year with Blancpain, Huggins has unfinished business….
Ready to go!
Ready to go!
Topcats Racing headed for Silverstone yesterday afternoon for the Blancpain Series with the Lamborghini Super Trofeo which takes place this weekend. It will be driver, Neil Huggins, maiden entry to the series with his new car. He has so far had one chance to learn the car in preparation for this big event by competing in the Britcar Trophy, collecting 2nd and 3rd overall. This will be a much greater challenge and we wish him fun and success this weekend!
First test session has started as this news is published and we will keep you posted this weekend!
