Hull based modes of transport would have been better to displace the tidal waters that flooded the Brands Hatch circuit at the weekend for the non-championship Britcar GT Open and Sports Car double header race.
The team were excited to introduce three new drivers to their Class 2 entry in the Marcos Mantis for the 2012 Silverstone 24Hr Race. Ian Bankhurst, a successful and well practised 24hr racer. Carlos Arimon, a cool and controlled Spaniard with considerable experience and a competitor in last year’s Silverstone 24hr. The third driver and already very much at home in the team, SEAT Production Cup racer, Paul Black, was taking his overdue opportunity to step into GT racing and after much curiosity, to finally experience the Marcos for himself.
Last weekend’s 2 hour endurance race was set to be a real thriller after Winstanley astonishingly qualified 3rd in the Topcats Racing Class 2 Marcos Mantis No. 35 car overall behind the GT2 Ferrari of Bailey/Schultz and the Morcillo/Cintrano Mosler. The crowd would have undoubtedly been treated to a three way battle for the win; Schultz and Morcillo still put on quite a show in the remaining 20 minutes of the race.
Topcats Racing dominated the Britcar Endurance Championship race at Oulton Park this weekend not only by virtue of their visible presence; the team ran 3 cars in the 3 hour long enduro, but because the team took the lion’s share of the trophies for both overall and class win positions.
O’Neill and Huggins left their Class 2 rivals crestfallen at the weekend as they picked up maximum points and an extra point for class fastest lap to take them into the overall lead of the championship at Silverstone at the weekend.
Topcats Racing’s new driver pairing in the Production Cup Championship made a very positive and lasting impression in the 1 1/2 hour race at the weekend. Their Class 2 adversaries could not have expected both drivers to put on such a convincing demonstration of their racing capabilities.
