‘Tekkers’ from Topcats racer Gilbert in GT Cup Oulton Park

GTCup_OultonPark-24861For motorsport enthusiasts and followers of our own racing exploits we can highly recommend viewing Motors TV’s coverage of the GT Cup race at Oulton Park in July. See the link below. Lamborghini Gallardo drivers, Neil Huggins and Jeff Wyatt were joined by Warren Gilbert in the teams Marcos Mantis GT car for the mid-season round.
Notwithstanding the catastrophic start for the lead Huracan and Ferrari cars that crashed at the first corner, claiming a handful of pursuing racers that couldn’t avoid the melee and debris and subsequent cancellation of race 1 for GT Cup, an enthralling race was enjoyed by drivers and spectators in the second race with much of that credited to Topcats race team Director Warren Gilbert.
He was locked in battle with the Bailey/Shultz Ferrari 458 almost from the start until Gilbert was able to force the Ferrari to run wide at Deer Leap and pass down the inside as the pitstop window was opening.
Effort exerted by the driver is translated through the car and it’s rather ‘on the edge’ stance.
Gilbert finished an incredible 5th overall, punching above his weight as usual against the modern machinery around him.  Both Gilbert and the Huggins/Wyatt duo in the Lamborghini came 2nd in their respective classes.
Our next round of GT Cup will be at Silverstone GP Circuit on 10/11th September. We welcome supporters of the team so if you would like tickets to come and watch the racing and wave the metaphorical Topcats flag, then be our guest!!

Upcoming diary dates for our racing and sports car fans!

Posted by | Posted in Latest News, Main | Posted on 12-08-2016

IMG_2008As purveyors of racing, automotive high performance and adrenalin fuelled customer happiness, we have some imminent dates to appeal to most of our fellow petrolhead’s needs.

GT Cup – 13/14th August
This weekend the team will be competing at Donington Park in the GT Cup with drivers, Neil Huggins and Jeff Wyatt in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo car. If the prospect of free entry and a base and refreshments with the team is more tempting than a Saturday Tesco shop or Sunday lunch washing up then email charlotte@topcatsracing.com for details.

PHSSTopcatsracing_03[1]Pistonheads Sunday Service – 28th August
On Saturday, 28th August, we will be hosting Pistonheads Sunday Service for the 2nd year in a row.
Bacon rolls, burgers and snacks will be available to purchase along with free tea, coffee and refreshments.
As usual, Pistonheads only announce the date and venue 1-2 weeks prior so we will let you know when it goes live as you MUST add your name to the list on the thread. If you aren’t already, subscribe to Pistonheads to enter. It’s completely free.
Get your name down quickly though. Last year, all 300 places were filled within 2 days!
We will have many of our own and special customer cars on display as well as the infamous 753BHP TVR IMG_8779Sagaris Lingenfelter LS9, further enhanced in its armoury with a newly installed line lock and some super sticky Mickey Thompson’s, ready to attack and reign victorious (fingers crossed) at the Brighton Speed Trials the following weekend, which inevitably leads us to……

IMG_5403Brighton Speed Trials – 3rd September
Come and support us and cheer on owner driver, Paul ‘Blackie’ Black for this historic event. Last time we entered the car in 2014 we could have topped the leader board going by our terminal speed….if only we could have gotten her cleanly off the line. This time, with the right equipment, we could nail it!

Jeff Wyatt joins Huggins in Gallardo for Silverstone GT Cup this weekend

Preparing for the weekend

Preparing for the weekend

We are pleased to confirm that 2014 GT Cup Champion, Jeff Wyatt, will be co-driving with Neil Huggins at Silverstone this weekend for the GT Cup. It will be the first time Wyatt steps into a Lamborghini Gallardo but hopes to get some miles under his belt in pre race testing on Friday. It’s not the first time Wyatt has raced with the team. He has had several successful outings with the team in their TVR Tuscan and Marcos Mantis GT cars. The refinement of the 4WD Gallardo will take some getting used in contrast to the rawness of the British marques. He did however, win the championship in a BMW GT car and was on great form at the last round of GT Cup in a Porsche GT3 Cup car.

Two sprint races on Saturday and a 50 minute ‘pitstop’ race on Sunday we hope will provide the duo with an opportunity to win the spoils for the weekend.

Regular race updates will be available on our Facebook page: Topcatsracing

Super Trofeo car in Sepang

Super Trofeo car in Sepang

Accomplished GT racer, Neil Huggins, has taken delivery of a Lamborghini LP560-4 Super Trofeo car from Dusseldorf, Germany to race competitively with the hope for some victories in 2015. A real enthusiast of the marque, Huggins is looking forward to the new challenge. The car will be run by Huggins long-time race partner, Topcats Racing, who have run the driver for many years in their Marcos Mantis GT car in Britcar, GT Cup and several European races as well as Huggins own 1965 TVR Grantura in HSCC.

Well renowned for his exceptional turn of pace on the UK endurance racing scene, Huggins should show well in his debut outing at Silverstone GP circuit in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo on 22-24th May.

LamborghiniHuggins intends to up the ante with his return to the GT Cup and Britcar too with the more technically advanced machine where he is already used to contesting at the head of the field.

Huggins will be putting plenty of miles under his belt in the meantime though with his ‘last hurrah’ in the Marcos Mantis GT car and looking for top honours in the Silverstone Britcar 24hr race from 24-26th April to start the season. The team have also recently announced that they will be running the Mosler MT900R for the 24hr spectacle and currently have drives available.

Di-vine!

Di-vine!

We are extremely pleased to welcome aboard GT Cup / Britcar / TVR Challenge racer, Steve Glynn and his fabulous TVR Sagaris GT car which will campaign in Britcar / GT Cup in 2015 with Topcats Racing. We would like to say thank you to Tim Hood (a genuinely great guy!) for the smooth handover. He has dedicated so many night time hours to get this car ready for races and support the car at races over the last few years. His business commitments (mallorycoatings.co.uk if you need a chassis powder coated!) are such that he can’t continue next year but we pleased that Steve has chosen us to take over.
We’ll keep you posted on the work we do on it over the winter. Currently LS3 powered but who knows!….
