Topcats Racing open day, 10 Oct 2015

The Annual TVR Noughties event is on this Saturday, 23rd September at Topcats Racing from 10am!
All TVR’s are welcome to join us and the Bucks, Herts and Middx TVR Car Club for breakfast, courtesy of the team. Enjoy bacon rolls, pastries, tea, coffee and refreshments in our custom built workshop facility at Westcott Venture Park near Aylesbury, Bucks. You don’t have to be a car club member.
Once refreshed, why not benefit from a free ramp inspection with one of our engineers who will give your car a full top to bottom inspection, including a detailed report for your records.
We will of course have a range of cars on display in our 10,000sq.ft workshop to peruse and we will have a number of prizes to give away including a prize for the loudest car (using MSA approved monitor). There will be some exciting competitive challenges, pit stop style and a race simulator challenge with prizes for those who can beat a lap time that will be set on the morning by a 10 year old around Donington Park circuit! It will be harder to beat than you think!
As a TVR Network Member we will have lots of information and details on display and for you to take away for the new and fabulous TVR Griffith!
We will round the day off with the prize giving and for those who are continuing their day with the TVR Car Club will depart in convoy to the Coventry Motor Museum.
To find us, please don’t rely solely on your Sat Nav as the site is formerly MOD and the postcode can send you up the wrong road. Please check out our location on Google maps before you depart.
We are located just off the A41 between Aylesbury and Bicester. Follow the sign for Westcott from the A41 and the turning for Westcott Venture Park is almost immediately on your right.

We look forward to welcoming you on the 23rd!

Those not lucky enough to visit the event will get to see the car through the media streams that will no doubt be in full flow once the covers are off over the weekend.

TVR will suspend its order book briefly in order to hold back a small allocation of the 500 Launch Edition models to be built in the run up to the event and reopen on the 8th September once the car has been revealed. If you would like to place a £5000 deposit to secure your production slot for one of the 500 LE cars, please call Charlotte on 01296 655109 or email charlotte@topcatsracing.com. TVR TO UNVEIL NEW CAR AT GOODWOOD REVIVAL IN SEPTEMBER
  • TVR announces that it will unveil its new car to the public at the Goodwood Revival on 8th September
  • TVR is the first car manufacturer to launch a brand new vehicle at the world-renowned Revival event
  • To celebrate the marque’s 70th anniversary, the new car will be accompanied by a display of historic TVRs
  • With only 500 Launch Edition cars earmarked for production, TVR will soon stop taking further orders until the public unveiling

5th June, 2017: The iconic British sports car maker, TVR, is delighted to announce that it will be unveiling its eagerly awaited new sports car to the public at the Goodwood Revival on 8-10 September, 2017.

Created in conjunction with Gordon Murray Design, the 1200 kg car promises incredible 200mph performance and 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds. With the special launch edition car being offered at under £90,000, anticipation and demand for the 400BHP per tonne, five-litre, Cosworth developed V8-powered car is already at fever-pitch.

The unveiling of the car at the Goodwood Revival is a first for the world-renowned Sussex-based event. The new car will go on display in the ‘Earls Court’ building at the Revival, and will be showcased at the centre of a display which features a number of older, heritage TVRs, in celebration of the British marque’s 70th anniversary.

Speaking of the planned public launch, Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR said: “We are incredibly excited to be unveiling the new car at the Goodwood Revival. It’s the first time a global launch of a new car has occurred at the event, and it seems an entirely appropriate place for us to do it, with the marque’s motorsport heritage and an enthusiastic audience of dedicated car fans – and in our 70th anniversary year. After a series of secret private viewings organised for the benefit of existing customers for the new car, we know that we have a surefire hit on our hands, and very much look forward to seeing the public reaction in September.”

Speaking on behalf of the Revival, Lord March said, “We are delighted that TVR will feature so strongly over the Revival weekend this year. It is entirely fitting that TVR, as such an iconic British marque, should unveil what will be a very exciting entrant to the global sports car market at our iconic British event and I very much look forward to welcoming them to the Revival in September”.

TVR has held back a small allocation of the 500 Launch Edition cars for the public unveiling, so will soon close the order book, before re-opening it on the 8th September.

At last, the covers are coming off the new TVR! Are you invited?

Posted by | Posted in Latest News, Main | Posted on 09-01-2017

phmeetstvr_016We are sure news will have spread fast that TVR have announced dates for the eagerly awaited reveal of the new car with 2 morning and 2 afternoon sessions each day over the weekends of 18th/19th and 25/26th March, 2017.

Grouping into these sessions will allow for a much more intimate event for depositors and interaction with key TVR personnel, including Chairman, Les Edgar.

To ratify the bond with their depositors, TVR are giving exclusive viewing to them, along with TVR Network Members only, well in advance of public disclosure later in the year.

Needless to say, as the reveal will be held within TVR’s design studio at Gordon Murray Design near Guildford, not only is the TVR top secret, but other projects on site too and all visitors will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

tvr-teaserAs TVR Network Members, Topcats Racing will also be in attendance and as such would like to arrange, if possible, the opportunity for our own customers who have paid their deposits through us to attend the same session.  A great chance for us all to to catch up with each other!

Invitations from TVR are on a first come, first served basis and we will do our best to co-ordinate this. Please email us with your preferred morning/afternoon date and we will see if there is a majority preference we can fit around.

This will be a defining moment for depositors and a major milestone towards the arrival of their very own, new TVR. This date announcement marks the final few weeks that customers will be able to place a deposit for the Launch Edition model which includes the iStream Carbon chassis in the price (TBA) along with other upgrades that will become optional extra’s once the books close shortly after the reveal.

img_8907-300x225The Spring Reveal will no doubt be stirring the soul of many. If you would like to put your name on one of the remaining few Launch Edition cars and be there for probably the most exciting automotive revelation of 2017, please give us a call on 01296 655109 or email charlotte@topcatsracing.com and we can set the wheels in motion!

We look forward to seeing you in March!

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas!

Green and gold Christmas baubles and stars nestling in sparkling tinsel for a decorative seasonal background

Merry Christmas

Just 2 days until Christmas and we are still very busy in the workshop. 2016 has been our best year since Topcats Racing began; servicing, repairing and delivering performance upgrades to more customers than ever before.
We have big plans for next year and we believe that by continuing to invest in services for our customers, coupled with ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction, we can have another great year in 2017.
We are setting new dates for our calendar of events for next year including TVR Noughties, Corvette Car Club and our own ramp days and we will announce these in the coming weeks.
TVR will, at last, be unveiling the production car that we have all been waiting for in the New Year, with exclusive first viewing for us as Network Members and our deposit holder customers. We are very excited that we will have one at our workshop available for customers to view and demo.
Finally, whilst it has been a good year for us, we cannot ignore the atrocities that are destroying the lives of families in Syria, Yemen and surrounding countries. This year we have chosen to donate £350 to the Syria and Yemen Crisis appeals.
That just leaves us to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

TVR’s latest update on the eagerly anticipated new car launch in 2017

Posted by | Posted in Latest News, Main | Posted on 19-09-2016

downloadA welcome and personal update from TVR Chairman, Les Edgar was received last Friday to provide current deposit holders and potential new customers with news that all is well and progressing with the new car.

Sure, some will be critical that the reveal for the new car has been delayed but this is not unusual. As with any manufacturer, TVR’s news should be met with some expectance and  further fuel anticipation.

Big steps forward have been made and momentum continues. It will be worth the wait to immerse one’s self into the all-consuming experience and get behind the wheel of TVR’s evolved and genetically enhanced beast in 2017.

Less than 100 slots remain to order the Launch Edition of the new TVR. If you would like further information please contact us on 01296 655109 or email info@topcatsracing.com.

CAPTAIN’s LOG

It seems like only weeks since the London Motor Show but looking at the calendar, I can see that an update as to progress probably seems overdue. I realise that many of you might have expected more frequent updates but please don’t forget that the elapsed time since the deposit book first opened will feel artificially extended due to the fact that, by popular demand, it was opened more than 12 months early – most manufacturers might expect to start taking deposits 12 months before the car launch and some 18months/2years prior to first delivery. Nevertheless, as we start to pass significant milestones at greater frequency, you will hear more and more from us.

BOLDLY GOING

“You don’t know what you don’t know” as they say and, as you’d expect, development throws up many questions as we advance at an ever-increasing level of complexity and pace. Of course, like anybody involved in such an undertaking (in which a lot of the content is largely subjective), one anticipates a reasonable level of uncertainty and therefore builds in extra time in the development schedule to account for this. Indeed, not all challenges are unwelcome; we were not aware at the start of the design journey that Gordon would have the iStream Carbon process perfected in time for us to incorporate the technology in the chassis development of the new car. In this particular case, we decided that adding 3 months to our schedule was a small price to pay to have this feature, and your feedback since the announcement confirmed this. I’ve been told that there was a suggestion on one of the forums that Brexit might be a good whipping boy to blame any delays on, but I have to say that the complexities of negotiating a clean exit strategy from the EC has nothing on dealing with the implications of aerodynamic exactitude with small body changes to the exterior of this car!

One of the current challenges we are facing includes getting rid of the enormous amount of heat generated by the Catalytic converters. These are mounted vertically just inside the wings between the front wheels and the door hinge. The challenge is to make sure that heat can escape properly when you pull up at a péage on the way to Le Mans in 35deg sun having been doing 200mph with the cats at 900deg C and a Gendarme leans on the wing… this is still feeding into final wing / bonnet design (and we are including a warning sticker in French!)

BLACK HOLE

The moving feast that is homologation legislation causes no end of issues and, although our car will be going through the European Small Series Type Approval, there are still areas where we have had to modify our original design to accommodate legislative changes (current and future), further impacting on development schedules.

SPACE

The process to reach agreement with the Welsh Government, despite best efforts on both sides, took 4 months longer than allowed for; whereas this did not directly (adversely) affect the development schedule, it does affect the occupation date for the factory, pushing start of production out past our target. Conversely, it also means more available development time, which is always useful! However, the factory site in South Wales has been chosen and tender documents for the refurbishment are being prepared. This bit is slow but the actual refurbishment is not complex and, as I mentioned above, will not affect development schedules.

Nevertheless, we are making great progress on all aspects of the car design, albeit a little behind where we would like to be, and the good news is that we are on target for the launch of the car in 2017 – our 70th anniversary! While considering our current development status (and inevitably the budget) it did occur to me that most manufacturers spend fortunes developing features for their cars to differentiate them from the competition. Sadly, that also adds cost, complexity, unreliability and, of course, weight. We, on the other hand, have spent a significant portion of our budget doing the opposite – taking out as much weight as we can in order to give fantastic performance in a light weight car. Of course there will be plenty of opportunity for you to add weight (your own, megaton hi-fi, tow bar, etc.) but at least you will have started with an exceptionally balanced, lightweight vehicle!

Gordon Murray Design are flat out on further chassis refinements, engine integration, aero design etc. The design team is growing exponentially each month.

Interestingly, a little while ago we benchmarked a range of competitors’ cars against a TVR and, in the words of Gordon himself, the TVR was by far the best SPORTS CAR in the bunch – the only one you could properly get to do a controlled 4-wheel drift. As I suspected, it looks like our performance benchmark was ourselves all along.

Back to the main point of this letter. We want to show all our loyal deposit holders how far we’ve progressed as soon as possible and I’m acutely aware we have said that we would reveal the exterior styling of the car to you by the end of the summer this year. We are likely to be in a position to do this now in the autumn but, following significant feedback from customers, the press, our partners not to mention some of the more sane posts on the various forums, we decided that we should not reveal the new car ‘piecemeal’ but give a far more comprehensive presentation, including internal and external styling, equipment level, performance, pricing and indeed, as many attributes as possible, to give you the most complete information we can, thus enabling you to fully comprehend our vision for the next generation of TVRs.

TIME

With that in mind, we determined that we will have much more of the above to show early in the New Year and therefore we are scheduling the customer reveal for early next year – further details below. Yes, I know there will be the usual suspects who say “told you so”, “expect many more delays”, “it’ll never happen”, “Not a TVR if it’s not built in Blackpool by blokes munching on rock” etc. etc., but remember, to those who haven’t put a deposit down “why are you bothered?” and to those who understand what we’re doing “you won’t be disappointed” – easy for me to say because I know exactly what we’ve achieved so far and pretty much what the end result will be, but I believe the vast majority of you understand our strategy. This change of timing is not a reflection of delays in development, but solely so that we can show more at the reveal – something I’m sure will be welcomed by all who want to be certain that the new car will be everything it can be, and giving you as much information as possible to allow you to confirm your order and get your build slot.

We are also planning to announce some further exciting developments around the specification for the car at the time of the reveal – I can promise that this will be worth the wait.

Additionally, we will be able to give you an update on the progress with the factory together with our plans surrounding the launch of the new car later in 2017.

FIRST CONTACT

We have now set some dates for the customer reveal and I would like to invite you (and a guest) to a private unveiling of the Launch Edition of the new TVR. We are finalizing exact details and the final date is dependent on the number of attendees, but it will be between 27th Jan and the 19th Feb. In order for us to cater for all who wish to attend, please can you RSVP by clicking [DearLes@tvr.co.uk] indicating you wish to be added to the list. We will allow for any deposit holders that wish to attend but guest places may be limited in which case they will be allocated randomly. Incidentally, this is your primary contact email address at TVR from this point on. We will answer all emails received personally, but please use the email address we have you registered under, otherwise you will not get a response – its only for those of you currently holding a deposit.

At the event, myself and key TVR personnel will be on hand to give you as much information as possible regarding delivery dates, further specifications, any options and to discuss how we ensure that owning a new TVR is an exceptional experience for you.

CONTINUUM

By the way, this is certainly not the last update before the reveal – we will be more communicative from now on, as we have more to say. Despite pressure from all sides, we are determined that we make statements only when they are substantive.

EPILOGUE

Some of you, I know, were present when we took the Black Hound around the Millbrook high speed circuit last month and I hope you’ll agree that it made a huge impression aurally. This Cerbera-based mule is simply a test of engine power and gearbox in a car that broadly represents a vehicle of our target weight (slightly heavier actually). For the avoidance of doubt (and the usual nonsense on the forums), that’s all it was. It’s not supposed to be representative of our progress with the new car, simply a test of the Cosworth drive train in something approaching the weight and size of our car. We showed this to a group of Cerbera owners celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the launch of this iconic 2+2.

FEEL THE FORCE

To those of you that were unable to sample the delights of the Black Hound’s soundtrack, here’s a link to one of our own tests – yours truly trying out the ‘wet’ throttle map on a damp section of the Top Gear track… http://tvr.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3c1834561df09275e09e83d7c&id=724e0a7558&e=07b824acfa

…and yes, it really does sound like that.

(I recommend it on full volume on the 5.45  commute home).

Thanks for your support,

Les Edgar

The countdown to TVR Noughties begins!

Posted by | Posted in Latest News, Main | Posted on 02-09-2016

IMG_8924It’s the 1st of September which marks the countdown to a brand new event that we are very excited to be involved with…TVRCC TVR Noughties on 24th September, here at Topcats Racing!
Organised by TVRCC RO, Alex Gray, the event will celebrate the beautiful and breath-taking T-cars of the Peter Wheeler era when no holds were barred and TVR had their own rule book. Thank goodness for that because these cars look just as spectacular and unconventional now as they did when they left the quirky, curiosity shop that was the Blackpool TVR factory in the ‘noughties’!
As such, these cars and their creators deserve a raucous tribute. If you are a proud owner of one of these cars (all TVR’s are welcome to come and enjoy), don’t miss out on a momentous weekend from Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th September. The weekend programme is detailed below.
We will do our bit to put on a great show and add an injection of excitement at Topcats Racing’s custom built workshop facility on Saturday the 24th when cars from all over the country and Europe will descend upon us, many of which will arrive in convoy from base at Wroxhall Abbey.
We are concocting ideas for competitions, displays, prizes and a range of cars will be on display to treat all car enthusiasts. We will also be operating two of our ramps for the day for free car inspections with our engineers. You will be able to examine your car with them and ask any questions where they will be very happy to offer advice. This will be on a first come, first served basis and a list will be available to add your name.
You do not need to be a member of the TVRCC Club (although they might entice you to join on the day!). You do, however, need to be a TVR owner or someone who is considering buying one.
If you cannot participate in the whole weekend event, you will, of course, be very welcome to come and join us at Topcats Racing on Saturday 24th only.
Weekend details are here:
September 23rd – September 25th
Sept 23 at 2 PM to Sept 25 at 4 PM

Welcome to the first of the TVR “Noughties” Weekends!
What is the Noughties weekend?
——————————————–
The TVR Noughties (“00″) weekend (and no, that is not the TVR naughty weekend!) is a weekend to bring together and celebrate all the marks of TVRs that were designed and made in the last

It takes place in the beautiful and centrally located Wroxall Abbey Estate in Warwickshire and features an entire weekend of TVR (and non-TVR) events, run-outs and a special visit down to
Topcats Racing (just outside of Aylesbury) for a day of TVR related fun.
And the weekend is not just for TVR enthusiasts! For those of us just interested in a great weekend out – Wroxall Abbey features a fantastic spa, sauna and health club where you can just
relax away the entire weekend with massages, walks, swimming or just plain sleeping around – whatever you like!
Where is the event based?
———————————–
The event will be based at Wroxall Abbey Estate in Warwickshire.

Arriving on the Friday afternoon or evening, you will be free to check-in and decide on what you want to do before dinner. If enough people arrive early and the weather is good, then there will be the opportunity for a run-out before dinner around the backroads of Warwickshire on a special route prepared by the hotel with cars in mind.
Dinner will start at about 1930-2000 and will comprise of a BBQ on the terrace with dessert.
After dinner, much talking and (moderate – of course!) drinks consumption will take place.
Saturday 24th Sept
————————–
There are two main strands of events that will be running on the Saturday. The first is for those who are more petrolhead orientated and like to see power machines at play, whilst the second is for those who prefer a more sedate day out.
>Event track 1<
At about 0930-0945 there will be a run-out down to Topcats Racing just outside of Aylesbury for a specially reserved day out where the focus will be on TVRs, Marcoses, Racing cars and other assorted exotica. There will also be various unique TVRs on display and other items yet to be confirmed.

– Engine conversions to LS (detailed walkthrough)

– …and others!
Entry to the event will be limited to attendees of the weekend. Topcat specialists will be on hand all day to offer advice or inspections as needed.
A concourse event will also be run through out the day with prizes going to 3 of the best cars on the day.
The event will run till about 1600 or so, then we will do a lazy run back to Wroxall for the evening event.
>Event track 2<
For those not interested in cars or who just want a nice relaxing day, then all the facilities at Wroxall will be available for your use. See here for more information.

There will be other events available, but these are still being arranged, so please expect an update nearer the time.
>Evening<
Once everyone is back from the day, then we will have a special dinner at about 2000 with a charity auction and dance afterwards.

TVR entice the crowds at the London Motor Show!

Posted by | Posted in Latest News | Posted on 10-05-2016

IMG_8907We were extremely pleased to see that Les Edgar and the team at TVR were so well received at the London Motor Show by new customers looking to buy the car, deposit holders and the press. Whilst a reveal of the car wasn’t on the agenda for the show it was exciting to finally get an idea of its seductive proportions and hints of a few of its styling cues through the silk sheet. A very sexy scoop to the roofline and reassuringly muscular haunches will keep deposit holders very excited. Understandably, a full reveal of the car will be shown in the Summer once the few remaining small styling tweaks are set.
Orders for the Launch Edition have reached 400 and will be limited to 500 to safeguard exclusivity. The optional extras that will come as standard, as well as the i-Stream Carbon chassis, to the LE purchasers will no longer be available after the books are closed, for which a date has yet to be announced (Summer) but should coincide with the finished design of the car going public.
FullSizeRender (5)If you are considering purchasing the Launch Edition car and would like to talk to us with any questions you may have, please contact us at Topcats Racing (a member of the TVR Network) on 01296 655109 or email info@topcatsracing.com.
